Becoming a doctor is a rewarding, but difficult process.

The first major step? Getting accepted to medical school.

Most books will give you a checklist of things to do to get into medical school: get great grades, get good test scores, and complete extracurricular activities. But good grades and high scores are not enough to guarantee admission.  Medical schools are looking for something more. While there are many resources that explain the mechanics of the admissions process, this guide goes a step further and highlights the intangible qualities that admissions committees REALLY desire.

In my real-talk guide, I will challenge you to “go beyond” the checklist and actually think about what's needed to become a physician leader. I share important information that you won’t find anywhere else!

HELLO!

I am Dr. Olatokunbo Famakinwa (better known as Dr. Toks), and I am an award-winning, double-board certified internal medicine physician and pediatrician. I received my MD degree from the Yale University School of Medicine, and earned a Master in Public Health from Harvard University. I have spent nearly a decade assisting students through their pre-medical journey and medical school application process. I bring insight into the current landscape and culture of medicine (which is changing rapidly), as well as the up-to-date knowledge of what it takes to get into a top medical school. I have helped students from across a wide range of backgrounds, including underrepresented minority students, international candidates, and non-traditional applicants gain acceptance to medical school.

My Work with Students

Doctor Toks was an incredible resource for me when deciding on a career in the medical field. In just one meeting, she helped me polish my resume and gave me the advice I needed to move forward with my premedical academic career.

Pre-Medical Student

Wellesley College

She took the role of mentor above and beyond the scope of the program…She allayed my fears about my application not being adequate and ultimately not being received well. Doctor Toks believed in my success as an applicant even when I did not.

Medical Student

Class of 2018

Doctor Toks was an amazing mentor during undergrad. She was always available and took the time to walk me through the daunting process of applying for medical school. Beyond the academic work, she ensured that my college career built a clear story of who I was as a person and what I wanted to achieve in the medical field.  The advice I received from Doctor Toks is one of the reasons I ended up at my top choice for medical school.
